How to Wipe Your DayZ Server
DayZ1 min readUpdated Oct 22, 2026
A wipe gives everyone a fresh start: bases, stashes, vehicles and characters are gone, and the loot economy begins again. In DayZ all of that lives in one folder, so a wipe is deleting that folder while the server is stopped.
Back Up First
- Log in to your game panel and click your DayZ server.
- take a manual backup if there is any chance you want the old world back. A wipe cannot be undone.
Stop the Server
- On the Console page press Stop and wait until the status reads offline.
- DayZ writes to the storage folder while it runs; deleting it on a running server corrupts the next save.
Delete the Storage Folder
- Open Files in the left menu and go to
mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus. - Delete the folder
storage_1. It holds the persistence: buildings, items on the ground, vehicles, the loot state and the player database.
Start the Server
- Press Start. DayZ creates a new
storage_1, spawns fresh loot and vehicles, and every player starts with a new character.
Good to Know
- Wipe only the characters: delete
storage_1/players.dbinstead of the whole folder. Bases and loot stay, everyone respawns fresh. - Keep your mission edits.
types.xml,cfgeconomycore.xmland the other files next to the storage folder are not touched by a wipe, so your loot settings stay. - Mod data such as a base building mod's own save files usually also lives in
storage_1, so a full wipe clears it too. Check the mod's documentation if it stores data elsewhere, for example inprofiles. - Announce it. DayZ cannot show messages from the console, so tell your community in advance where you normally talk to them.
Finished
The server runs a fresh world. If you wiped for a mod change, add or remove the mods before you start the server again.
