Why host your own Project Zomboid server?
Project Zomboid is the zombie survival game about how you died, and the multiplayer version is about how your group died together. A dedicated server of your own keeps Knox Country running while everyone is at work: the safehouse stays claimed, the crops keep growing, the generator keeps running out of fuel, and your friends drop in whenever they like with the sandbox rules and mods you chose.
Our Project Zomboid hosting runs the official dedicated server on AMD Ryzen CPUs with high clocks and NVMe storage, behind VibeSHIELD DDoS protection. Build 42 or Build 41 are a switch in the panel, Steam Workshop mods are a list of IDs, and the Java memory follows your plan automatically. The server is online within minutes of ordering.
Which Project Zomboid plan do you need?
Project Zomboid runs on Java and its memory grows as players explore more of the map and as the mod list grows:
A small group: Zomboid I
6 GB and two threads for 1 to 8 players, vanilla or with a short mod list, exploring one town.
A full group: Zomboid II to III
8 to 12 GB for 8 to 32 players, a long Workshop list and a map that has been explored for weeks.
Large communities: Zomboid IV
16 GB and five threads for 32 to 64 players with map mods and heavy mod lists. The game itself warns about desync above 32 players, so most communities stop there and spend the extra memory on mods. Upgrading keeps your save.
Builds, Workshop mods and sandbox settings
The panel handles the Zomboid-specific chores so you can spend your time on the rules.
Build 42 or Build 41
New servers run Build 42, the stable version since July 2026. Switch to Build 41 in the panel for older worlds and mod lists; the server will not open a save from the other build, so a wrong switch cannot damage your world.Steam Workshop mods
Enter the Workshop item IDs and mod IDs in the control panel and the server downloads them when it starts; players receive them automatically when they join. Map mods work the same way.Sandbox rules
Zombie population, speed, strength and memory, loot rarity, XP multipliers, starting month, water and electricity shut-off, PvP and safehouses are all in the server's sandbox settings, editable from the panel.
Project Zomboid server locations worldwide
Low ping is half the fun. Our Project Zomboid servers run in 15 datacenters across Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Oceania and Africa, every one on the same AMD Ryzen hardware with NVMe storage and behind VibeSHIELD, our own DDoS protection network with 17 Tb/s of mitigation capacity. You pick the location at checkout, and the latency checker below shows your real ping to each one before you order.
Outgrown your first choice? Our team moves your server to another location on request, with your files intact, so the location you start in is never a lock-in.
Your first steps after ordering
The server is delivered installed and running a new Build 42 world. Getting your group in takes a few steps:
- 1Set the server name, password and admin password
- 2Pick Build 42 or Build 41
- 3Enter your Workshop and mod IDs
- 4Set the sandbox rules: zombies, loot, XP and PvP
- 5Restart from the panel and join by address from the Join menu
Switching from another Project Zomboid host?
A Project Zomboid server is its save folder under Saves/Multiplayer plus the ini and SandboxVars files in the Server folder, all named after the server. Upload them over SFTP, keep the server name, enter the same mods, choose the same build, restart, and the safehouse and everyone's characters are back.
- 1
Download the Saves/Multiplayer folder for your server and the Server folder with its ini and sandbox files
- 2
Upload them over SFTP under the same server name
- 3
Enter the same mod list, pick the same build and restart

Why choose VibeGAMES
DDoS protection
VibeSHIELD, our globally anycasted DDoS-protected network, now spans 46 scrubbing locations worldwide. Every point of presence filters traffic the instant it lands, stopping attacks as close to the source as possible, long before they ever reach your server.
All 46 locations combine into one unified DDoS-protected fabric, so the full capacity of the entire network backs every individual server. Layer that on top of custom game-aware filtering, tuned for the protocols our customers actually use, and it doesn't matter how big the attack is or how long it lasts. Your players stay connected.
