How to Install a Modpack on Your Minecraft Server
Minecraft2 min readUpdated Aug 29, 2026
A modpack turns your server into a different game: Cobblemon, Pixelmon, Better MC, a horror pack, a tech pack. The panel installs full modpacks in one click from Modrinth, CurseForge, Feed The Beast, ATLauncher, Technic and Voids Wrath. The one thing to understand first is that a modpack replaces what your server currently is.
Back Up What You Have
- Log in to your game panel and click your Minecraft server.
- Open Backups and take a manual backup. See how to create a manual backup.
- Installing a modpack changes the server type, the version and the files. If you have a world you care about, this backup is how you get it back.
Open the Modpacks Page
- Click Modpacks in the left menu under GAME SERVER.
- Choose a Provider, then search or browse. Each entry links out to its page so you can read what the pack actually contains before installing.
Install It
- Press Install next to the pack you want.
- The panel asks whether to wipe the existing server files. Wiping gives the cleanest result, and it deletes your current world, so only choose it if you have that backup or do not want the world.
- Installation downloads the whole pack and can take several minutes. Larger packs are several gigabytes.
- Watch the Console as it finishes. A modpack's first start is slow because it generates a new world with all the pack's content in it.
Give Your Players the Same Pack
- Every player needs the same modpack, at the same version, installed in their own launcher. Without it they cannot connect.
- Send them the pack's name and version, or the link from the modpacks page. Most packs install in a couple of clicks in the CurseForge or Modrinth launcher.
Good to Know
- A modpack sets your server type for you. Packs run on Forge, NeoForge or Fabric, and installing one switches your server to the right loader and version. You do not need to change it yourself first.
- Plugins and mods are different things. A modpack changes the game for everyone and needs a client install. Plugins are server side and need nothing from your players. Most Forge and Fabric servers cannot run Bukkit plugins.
- Modpacks want memory. A big pack on a small plan will struggle. If the console reports memory errors or the server keeps stalling, that is usually the cause.
- Check the version before telling everyone. Get in yourself first, confirm the server is up and the pack loaded, then share the address.
Finished
Your server is running the modpack and your players can install the same pack and join. Confirm they have your address with how to connect to your Minecraft server.
