How to Connect to Your Minecraft Server

Minecraft2 min readUpdated Aug 29, 2026

Your Minecraft server is running, and now you and your friends need to get into it. Everything you need is one address from the panel. Here is where to find it and how everyone adds it in Minecraft.

Find Your Server Address

  • Log in to your game panel and click your Minecraft server.
  • On the Console page, look at the SERVER panel on the left. ADDRESS shows the full address, for example 31.56.25.106:25565.
  • Click it to copy. This is the one piece of information every player needs.

  • Check the status next to your server name reads RUNNING. If not, press Start and wait for the console to finish loading the world.

Add the Server in Minecraft

  • Start Minecraft Java Edition and choose Multiplayer.
  • Click Add Server.
  • Put anything you like in Server Name, then paste the full address into Server Address.
  • Click Done. Your server appears in the list with a green connection bar when it is reachable.
  • Double click it to join.

Make Sure Your Version Matches

  • Minecraft only lets you join a server running the same version as your client.
  • The Versions page in the panel shows what your server runs. Your players need that exact version selected in the Minecraft launcher.
  • If you would rather change the server to match your players, see how to change my server type.

Good to Know

  • Include the port. Servers do not all run on the default 25565. Use exactly what the panel shows rather than typing the IP on its own.
  • Bedrock players cannot join a Java server. Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are separate games and separate servers. A plugin such as Geyser can bridge them, which you can install from the Plugins page.
  • Modded servers need the same mods. If your server runs a modpack, every player needs that modpack installed too or they cannot connect.

Finished

You and your friends are on the server. Next, make yourself an operator so you can run commands, or give the server a proper message in the server list. If someone still cannot get in, read why players cannot connect.
