How to Add Custom Cars and Tracks to Your Assetto Corsa Server

Assetto Corsa2 min readUpdated Oct 22, 2026

Community cars and tracks are the reason to run your own Assetto Corsa server. The server needs a small part of each one, the data files, in the same folders as the game, and every driver needs the full content installed. Here is how to get both right.

What the Server Needs

  • A car: the folder content/cars/carname with its data.acd (or the unpacked data folder) and the skins folder names, so the entry list can reference skins.
  • A track: the folder content/tracks/trackname with its data folder (surfaces.ini and the other ini files), the ai folder and, for tracks with several layouts, the layout subfolders.
  • The server does not need the models, textures or sounds. Uploading the whole content folder works, but is slow and fills your storage.

Pack the Content With Content Manager

  • In Content Manager open Server, select the preset with your cars and track, and use Pack server. Content Manager collects exactly the files the server needs.
  • Alternatively, copy the folders by hand from your own game's content folder and leave out sfx, texture and the .kn5 models.

Upload to the Server

  • Log in to your game panel and click your Assetto Corsa server.
  • Stop the server. Open Files and go to content/cars or content/tracks.
  • Upload the folders with the same names as in your game. For anything bigger than a few megabytes FTP is easier.

Select the Content and Restart

  • Open Config Editor, go to Track & cars, select the track and its layout and add the cars to the entry list.
  • Save and restart. The console shows the track and the cars it loaded; a car it cannot find is named there.

Get the Content to Your Drivers

  • Every driver needs the same cars and track, in the same version, installed in their game. Content Manager tells them what is missing when they join.
  • Share the files where your community lives, with the version in the file name.

Good to Know

  • Checksum errors mean the driver's version of a car or track differs from the server's. Same version on both sides fixes it.
  • Folder names matter. ks_ cars and the official tracks are in every game; a community car under a different folder name than the driver has is a missing car.
  • Storage. Plans come with plenty of storage for content, but the full content folder of a modded game is many gigabytes. Pack only what the server needs.

Finished

The server runs your content and your drivers have it installed. Back on the Config Editor, set the sessions for the event.
