How to Start a Fresh World on Your Palworld Server

Palworld2 min readUpdated Aug 28, 2026

Sometimes a world has run its course: the map is stripped, everyone is max level, or you want to start again with different settings. Your server can generate a brand new world in about two minutes, and you can keep the old one so nothing is really lost.

Back Up the World You Have

Stop the Server

  • Go to Console and press Stop.
  • Wait until it is fully offline. A running server writes the world back out as it shuts down, which would undo the next step.

Set Your New World Up First

  • Now is the moment to change anything you want the new world generated with. Open Game Settings and set your difficulty, rates and limits before the world exists.
  • See every Palworld server setting explained for what you can change.

Move the Old World Aside

  • Open Files and navigate to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0.
  • Inside is one folder with a long name of letters and numbers. That is your current world.
  • Open it. It contains Level.sav, LevelMeta.sav and a backup folder.
  • Delete Level.sav and LevelMeta.sav. Leave the folder itself in place.
  • With no world file to load, the server generates a new one on the next start.

Start the Server

  • Press Start and watch the console until it reaches Running Palworld dedicated server on :18003, with your own port.
  • Join, and you should arrive in a freshly generated world with a new character.

Good to Know

  • Your address does not change. Same IP, same port, same password. Nobody needs new connection details.
  • Everyone starts over. Characters, levels and Pals are tied to the world you just replaced. Tell your players before you do it.
  • Going back is possible. Restoring the backup from step 1 puts the old world back exactly as it was, which is the whole reason for taking it.
  • Settings survive. Everything in Game Settings belongs to the server, not the world, so your configuration carries over to the new world.

Finished

Your server is running a brand new world with the settings you chose. If the old world is one you might want again some day, download the backup and keep a copy somewhere off the server.
