How to Make Yourself Superadmin on Your Garry's Mod Server

To manage your Garry's Mod server from inside the game you need the superadmin rank. This guide uses ULX, the most common admin mod, and also shows the built-in way without any addon.

1Install ULX With a Workshop Collection

• Add both ULX (Workshop ID 557962238) and ULib (Workshop ID 557962280) to your Workshop collection. ULX does not work without ULib.
• If you have no collection yet, follow how to add Workshop addons first.
• Log in to your game panel, click your server and open the Console page.
• Click Restart and wait until the status reads RUNNING.

2Find Your Steam ID

• Open the Garry's Mod console in game with the ~ key and type status. Your Steam ID looks like STEAM_0:1:12345678.
• You can also look it up on steamid.io.

3Make Yourself Superadmin

• Stay on the Console page of the panel.
• Type this command in the box at the bottom and press Enter. Use your own Steam ID:

ulx adduserid STEAM_0:1:12345678 superadmin

• If you are already in the game, this works with your name too:

ulx adduser "YourName" superadmin

4Open the ULX Menu

• Join your server. Need help? Read how to join your Garry's Mod server.
• Type !menu in the chat, or type xgui in the console.
• From the menu you can kick, ban, change the map and give ranks to other players.

5Other Method: The Stock users.txt

Use this if you do not want ULX.

• Open Files in the left menu and open garrysmod/settings/users.txt. It opens in the editor.
• Put your name and Steam ID in the superadmin group, like this:

• Click Save and restart the server from the Console page.

Good to Know

• ULX ranks are saved on the server. They live in garrysmod/data/ulib/users.txt. Do not delete that file or your ranks are gone.
• The Steam ID format matters. Use the STEAM_0:x:y format with ULX commands.
• Gamemodes use the same rank. A gamemode like DarkRP has its own admin checks, but they read the same usergroup.
• Give out superadmin carefully. Superadmins can run almost any command. Use the admin rank for helpers.

You are now superadmin and can manage the server from the game. Next, change the server name, password and RCON.
