How to Join Your Garry's Mod Server
Garry's Mod2 min readUpdated Oct 24, 2026
Your Garry's Mod server is installed and ready for players. This guide shows where to find the address, three ways to connect to it, and how to check that you are on the server.
Find Your Server Address
- Log in to your game panel and click your Garry's Mod server.
- Make sure the status next to the server name reads RUNNING. If it says OFFLINE, press Start and wait until it changes. See how to start your game server if you need help.
- On the Console page, look at the How players join card. It shows the Address and the Console command. Each one has a Copy button.
Join With One Click
- On the How players join card, press Join through Steam.
- Your browser asks if it may open Steam. Allow it.
- Garry's Mod starts and connects to your server by itself.
Join From the Game Console
Use this if you are already in Garry's Mod, or if the one-click button does nothing.
- In Garry's Mod, press the
~key to open the console. - If nothing opens, go to Options, then Keyboard, then Advanced, and turn on Enable developer console. Then press
~again. - Click Copy next to the Console command on the card.
- Paste it into the game console and press Enter.
The command looks like this:
connect 31.56.25.73:27015
Join From the Steam Server List
- In the Steam client, open View and then Game Servers.
- Go to the Favorites tab and add your Address, for example
31.56.25.73:27015. - Select the server in your list and connect.
Check That You Are on the Server
- In the panel, open Players in the left menu, under GAME SERVER.
- Your name appears in the Online now list. Press Refresh if it is not there yet.
- The same page lets you Kick or Ban a player, send a message to everyone online, and manage the ban list.
Good to Know
- A password changes the console command. If you set a server password in
server.cfg, the command on the card becomesconnect address; password "yourpassword". The card tells you that the command contains the password, so do not share it in public. - Workshop downloads happen when you join. If you set a Workshop collection, players download it automatically on joining. A big collection can take a few minutes the first time.
- You do not need a login token to join. The address always works. A token is only needed if you want the server in the public server list.
Finished
You are on your server. Next, get a Steam login token so other players can find it in the public server list.
