Enter a steam API key
FiveM1 min readUpdated Aug 28, 2026
Some identifier setups and resources require a Steam Web API key. Without one, players who join through Steam can be rejected with a key error in the console. Getting and entering a key takes two minutes.
Create a Steam Web API Key
- Go to https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey and log in with your Steam account.
- Enter any domain name you like, for example
game.vibegames.com, and confirm. - Copy the key that appears.
Enter the Key in the server.cfg Editor
- In the game panel, open your server and click server.cfg Editor under GAME SERVER.
- Scroll to the License & API keys section and paste your key into the Steam Web API key field. Use the Show / Hide button on the field to double-check what you pasted.
Save and Restart
- Press Save changes. The editor writes the key as
set steam_webApiKeyin your server.cfg. - Restart your server from the Console page.
Finished
Steam identifiers now work on your server. If players still cannot join, verify the key was copied completely and check the console for key-related errors during startup.
