FiveM license key (sv_licenseKey): where to find it and how to enter it

Every FiveM server needs a license key from Cfx.re. Without one the server refuses to start. Creating a key is free; this guide shows how to create it and where to enter it.

1Generate a Key at Cfx.re

1. Log in with your CFX account on https://portal.cfx.re/login.
2. In the top menu, click Servers.

3. Press the GENERATE KEY button.

4. Enter a name and press GENERATE.

5. Under Actions, click Copy registration key.

2Game Server: Enter the Key in the Panel

• In the game panel, open your server and click server.cfg Editor under GAME SERVER.
• Scroll to the License & API keys section and paste the key into the FiveM license key field. Use Show / Hide to verify it.
• Press Save changes and restart your server from the Console page.

3VPS or Dedicated Server

If you run FiveM on a VPS or dedicated server instead, put the key in your server.cfg yourself:

set sv_licenseKey "xxxxxxxxx"

When the console prints Server license key authentication succeeded. Welcome! everything is OK. Keep in mind a key is bound to one server at a time; reusing it elsewhere causes server list problems. Brand new server? Continue with where to start.

Common license key errors

• Server license key authentication failed or invalid license key: the key was copied with spaces or quotes missing, or it was generated for another server IP. Open the Cfx.re portal, check the key's details and copy it again; the value must be on one line in sv_licenseKey "...".
• This key is already in use or the server appears and disappears in the list: the same key runs on two servers. Generate a second key; keys are free and you can have several.
• Key tied to the wrong IP: in the Cfx.re portal a key can be bound to a server IP. After moving to a new host, edit the key and clear or update the IP, or generate a new one.
• Key from a reseller or a "cracked" package: these are shared keys and get your server delisted. Always generate your own key at portal.cfx.re.
• Keymaster: older guides refer to keymaster.fivem.net; that site now redirects to the Cfx.re portal, where the same keys live under Servers.
