How to Join Your Valheim Server

Your Valheim server is running a new world and waits for the crew. Steam players join with the address, console and Game Pass players with a join code, and both are on the Console page of the panel.

1Find the Address and the Join Code

• Log in to your game panel and click your Valheim server.
• On the Console page the How to join card shows the Address (ip and port). Click it to copy.
• With Crossplay on, the same card shows the join code. It changes on every restart, so read it fresh after each restart.
• The status next to the server name has to read RUNNING. Valheim takes a minute to load the world after a start.

2Join From Steam

• Start Valheim, choose Start Game, pick a character and press Start.
• Go to Join Game, press Join IP at the bottom and enter the address from the panel, including the port.
• Enter the Server Password when asked. A listed server always has one; see the world settings.
• Your server is also in the Community list when Show in Server List is on. Add it to favourites once you found it.

3Join From Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2 or Game Pass

• Console players cannot type an address. They need the join code from the How to join card.
• In Valheim open Join Game, choose Join code and enter it, then the password.
• This only works with Crossplay on in Game Settings. With crossplay off, only Steam players can join.

Good to Know

• The join code changes on every restart. Share the address with your Steam players and the current code with the console players after each restart, or point them at the community list where the server also appears.
• Valheim allows 10 players at the same time on an unmodified server.
• Mods and crossplay do not mix. Console players cannot install mods, so a modded server can only have crossplay with mods marked server only. See how to install mods.
• Version mismatch is the usual reason a join fails after a Valheim patch: the server updates itself on every start, so restart it before your players update.
