How to connect to your Linux server

You manage a Linux server over SSH. You will need the server's IP address and the root password, which VibeGAMES emails you as soon as your server finishes installing. If you provided an SSH key while ordering, you log in with that key instead of a password.

1Find Your Server's IP Address

• Log in to the VibeGAMES dashboard, and under Virtual Servers click Manage on your server.
• On the Details tab, use the copy icon next to IPv4 address.

2Option A: the Built-In SSH Client

Windows 10 and 11, macOS and Linux all include an SSH client, so you do not have to install anything.

• Open a terminal (on Windows: Windows Terminal or PowerShell).
• Run this, replacing the IP with your own:

ssh root@YOUR-SERVER-IP

• The first time you connect, type yes to accept the host fingerprint.
• Enter the root password from your installation email. The terminal shows nothing while you type the password; that is normal. Press Enter.

3Option B: PuTTY

• Download PuTTY from the official download page and open it.
• Enter your server's IP address under Host Name (or IP address) and click Open.

• If a PuTTY security alert appears on the first connection, accept it.

• Log in as root and enter the password. You will not see the password while typing; to paste it, copy the password and click the right mouse button inside the PuTTY window, then press Enter.

Finished

If the credentials are accepted you land on your server's welcome screen and shell prompt. You are connected.

Cannot connect?

• SSH (port 22) is open by default: it comes pre-configured in your VibeSHIELD DDoS protection. If you deleted that filter, open your server's DDoS protection tab in the dashboard and add it back with Add filter (or the SSH (port 22) template on the Open a port card).
• Lost the root password? It was sent to you by email when the server was installed. If you cannot find it, open a support ticket.
