How to setup your server icon
A custom icon makes your server instantly recognizable in the multiplayer server list. Minecraft is strict about what it accepts, so this guide covers the requirements and the upload.
Prepare the Image
Minecraft only loads the icon when all three requirements are met:
- The image is exactly 64x64 pixels.
- The file is a PNG.
- The file is named exactly server-icon.png.
Any image editor or online resizer can scale your image to 64x64. Watch out when downloading: if the file already existed in your downloads folder, your browser saves it as server-icon (1).png, which will not work until you rename it.
Upload It to the Root Folder
- Log in to your game panel, click your server and open Files under FILES.
- Stay in the root folder (the breadcrumb shows container). The icon belongs next to
server.properties, not inside a world or plugins folder. - Press Upload and choose Upload files, or drag the image onto the page.
Restart Your Server
- Go to the Console page and press Restart. The icon is loaded during startup.
Icon Not Showing?
- Cache: press the refresh button in your multiplayer server list, or remove and re-add the server. Restarting your Minecraft client also helps.
- Wrong name:
servericon.png,server-icon (1).pngor a.jpgwill not work. The name must be exactlyserver-icon.png. - Wrong folder: the file must be in the root of your server. Use Move in the row menu of the file manager if it ended up somewhere else.
- Wrong size: anything other than 64x64 pixels is rejected. Check the image dimensions in its properties on your computer.
Finished
Your icon now shows next to your server in the multiplayer list. Want to style the text next to it too? The panel has an MOTD page under GAME SERVER where you write the two lines of your server list entry, with colour codes and a preview.
