Enabling/Disabling PvP in a Minecraft Server on VibeGAMES Game Panel
Whether players can fight each other is one of the first things you decide for your Minecraft server. How you change it depends on your Minecraft version, so start by checking which of the two routes applies to you.
Minecraft 1.21.9 and Newer: Use the pvp Game Rule
Since Minecraft 1.21.9, PvP is no longer a line in server.properties. It is a game rule now, which you change while the server is running: no restart, no file editing.
- Log in to your game panel and click your server. You land on the Console page.
- Your server must be online, so press Start first if it is offline.
- Click the Type a command field below the console and run:
gamerule pvp false
- Use
gamerule pvp trueto switch fighting back on. The console confirms the new value straight away.
The game rule is stored per world, so it survives restarts. Running the same command in game (as an operator) does exactly the same thing.
Older Versions: Edit server.properties
On Minecraft 1.21.8 and older, PvP is a setting in server.properties.
- In the left menu, click Files under FILES.
- Click
server.propertiesin the root folder to open it in the editor.
- Find the line that starts with
pvp=and set it topvp=trueorpvp=false. - Press Save or use Ctrl+S.
- Go back to the Console page and press Restart. This setting is only read while the server starts.
Which Version Am I On?
Open
server.propertiesand look for apvp=line. No such line means you are on 1.21.9 or newer, so use the game rule above. More about editing files in the file manager guide.
Finished
Join your server and try to hit another player to confirm the change. Two related settings have their own guides: enabling a whitelist and allowing cracked launchers.
